DUST LOVERS
Edgar Poe's Bedside Record
Where Rock Meets Dark Romanticism
Formed in Paris by a mostly Nantes-born line-up, the quintet The Texas Chainsaw Dust Lovers, later shortened to Dust Lovers, deliver what they call "Noir Rock'n'Roll", tinged with blues and punk rhythms. True to their original name, their love of cinema is palpable, and they gladly borrow its codes when crafting their albums. They are among those artists who transcend their medium to tell their story: a dark, esoteric aesthetic where tragic romanticism, tinged with Edgar Poe's morbid fantasy, meets raw electricity.
I had the chance to photograph them during a concert at L'Abrewoir in Noirmoutier. I could not imagine anything other than a dirty, grainy black and white to pay tribute to the encounter between the elegant aesthetics of American film noir — Billy Wilder, Fritz Lang, Orson Welles — and the raw, visceral energy of rock'n'roll.
